At present, the wet beneficiation process is mainly used to improve the ore grade. The process steps are as follows: after the raw ore is crushed, the slurry suitable for beneficiation is prepared by grinding in the horizontal ball milling system. The slurry is separated in the beneficiation system to form concentrate powder with high iron grade and tailings with low iron grade. The slurry grinding and dressing process needs to consume a lot of water resources, especially in the mine areas lacking water sources, so water conservation and water intake become difficult problems. In order to alleviate the problems mentioned above, grinding and beneficiation under the condition of no water or less water consumption has become the goal pursued by people. However, at present, the whole process dry grinding and dry separation process is rarely applied in practice. At present, the mill commonly used by wet iron ore processing enterprises is generally a traditional tube mill, which not only consumes water resources, but also consumes a huge amount of electricity. The iron ore vertical roller mill used in iron ore dry beneficiation is a new type of mill with high production efficiency and safe and reliable operation. Its main structure is composed of main motor, main reducer, grinding disc, grinding roller and tensioning and pressurizing device, frame, separator, three gates, installation and maintenance device, auxiliary drive device and sealing air pipeline. Compared with the tube mill for wet beneficiation, the iron ore vertical roller mill has the following advantages:

 

(1) The iron ore vertical roller mill has high production efficiency and greatly reduces the grinding energy consumption. Compared with the tube mill, the power consumption of the vertical roller mill is only 50%~60% of that of the ball mill, which varies with the moisture content of the raw materials. The higher the moisture content, the more economical. Generally, the power consumption of vertical roller mill for grinding cement is 20~25 kW·h/t, while that of traditional tube mill is 40~45 kW·h/t, with obvious energy-saving effect.

 

(2) Strong drying capacity. A large amount of hot air can be used, especially for the reuse of low temperature waste gas at the end of PC kiln or PH kiln.

 

(3) The system is simple, integrating crushing, drying, powder selection and other processes, simplifying the process. The vertical roller mill is used as the grinding system, and the dryer and powder concentrator in the grinding system can be removed. It not only reduces the equipment investment, but also simplifies the process, making the whole system more safe and reliable.

 

(4) Easy control. The retention time of materials in the mill is only 2-3 min, while that in the tube mill is 15-20 min. Therefore, the operation process is easy to change, the chemical composition can be quickly corrected, and the product particle size distribution is uniform.

 

(5) The particle size of the feed material is large, and the feed particle size can reach 4%~5% of the roll diameter.

 

(6) Low noise. Since the roller of the vertical roller mill does not directly contact the grinding disc, while the tube mill uses the grinding ball to directly contact the material, there is no metal impact sound, and the noise is 10 dB lower than that of the tube mill.

 

(7) There is little air leakage. The vertical roller mill has good overall sealing performance and a set of “air sealing system”, which is more advanced and reliable than the traditional mechanical seal, so it is more conducive to the use of low-temperature waste gas.

 

(8) High operation rate. The vertical roller mill has the advantages of high efficiency and low wear. When grinding raw meal, the consumption of wear parts is generally 6-8 g/t, and the service life of roll sleeve and lining plate can reach more than 8000 h. When the traditional tube mill is running, the grinding ball and the abrasive are in direct contact with each other. The grinding ball and the lining plate wear quickly, the accessories are replaced frequently, and the equipment operation rate is low. The operation rate of the vertical roller mill is up to more than 90%.
